This is an issue that can arrive on any system but l’m typically writing on how to solve this problem on Windows 7 (64 bit). I like Windows 7 but like any other Microsoft program, there are pitfalls in it but you know, life is all about pitfalls. There is almost nothing perfect so we just have to deal with it somethings. If you can’t deal with it, then you’ll be screwed, unless there is a perfect world somewhere. Ok, so l’m discussing this issue that can come from no where and prevent you from installing or uninstalling programs on windows 7. You know, normally, to uninstall a program in windows 7, you go to the control panel and select add/remove programs. A window shows up that lists all the programs available on your computer, you select the program you want to uninstall and hit the uninstall button at the top, then the program uninstalls or you get the error that this program can not install or there are other programs trying to uninstall so you have to wait until they’ve finished uninstalling. Meanwhile, in you own right mind, you haven’t started any uninstallation process before the current one. Then you start cursing the computer. well, there is solution for this and it may or might not help you, but it works most of the time.

First, go to http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall , which is a Microsoft support site for this type of problem and run microsoft fix it, a little program that will install on your computer and help you continue the rest of the procedure. You have to click to run the program after download so it will install automatically after the download process has completed or if you save it on the computer, then install it to use for the rest of the procedure. After installation, it will bring you to terms and conditions page to accept them, which is basically going to be if we break anything in your computer during the process, we are not responsible lol. go ahead accept it and the program will complete the installation.

Then comes the screen where you select if you want fix it to automatically detect errors and fix them or you want to it detect the errors then you can decide what to do with them. I recommend to chose the automatic approach if you are not so sure of what you are doing. so assume we chose the automatic approach and click on that, the program brings you to the window where you chose if you want it to fix installation or uninstallation problems. Here, the choice is yours but l’m going to continue with the uninstalling step so l’ll click on uninstalling from the options available. The program will check your registry for patch related problems and then it will bring up all the programs you have installed on your computer and you can choose the program you desired to uninstall. Select the program and click the next bottom of that window. It brings you the option if you want it to uninstall the program and cleanup it’s mess in your registry or you want to try other fixes that are available in fix it. Choose try to uninstall and your problem will be resolved if you are lucky. When successful, the error will be fixed and the program uninstalled. You can then go back to your control panel or check your programs to see if that particular problem is gone. If it doesn’t then you have to try the whole process again or other ways of solving this problem, which l can’t describe now.

What fix it fixes (copied from Microsoft site)are as follows:
Removes bad registry key on 64 bit operating systems.
Windows registry keys that control the upgrade (patching) data that become corrupted.
Resolves problems that prevent new programs from being installed.
Resolves problems that prevent programs from being completely uninstalled and blocking new installations and updates.
Use this troubleshooter for an uninstall only if the program fails to uninstall using the windows add/remove programs feature.

This post discusses a little issue you might face when you are trying to install windows XP on a computer that comes with Serial ATA (SATA or Serial Advanced Technologies Attachement) bus interface. This type of computer systems are the easiest to install because they don’t have jumper settings on the hard drive but if you are trying to install a fresh Windows XP on this type of systems, you are likely to run into a frustrating problem. The SATA driver do not come originally with Windows XP so you must find a way to get it in there on the system to have a successful installation. Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Linux Operating systems do not have this problem, you can install them on SATA computer systems without any problem. Now, how do you know if your computer have a SATA interface? Well, if you can easily open your hard drive compactment, it will be written on the Hard drive. Another way you can detect this problem is when you know you have a perfectly working hard drive in the computer but when trying to install Windows XP, you encounter the error stating that there is no hard drive installed on your computer and you need to install one and make sure there is power supplied to it. This can be frustrating because you know you have the hard drive in there but the freaking installation can not recognize it. If it is a problem of SATA but not hard drive failure, I’m going to describe two ways to overcome that problem. The first one is using a floopy diskette. Go on the manufacture website for your computer model and go to the drivers and downloads section and look for the SATA driver for your model, download it and create a driver diskette with your floppy drive. The instruction to create the driver diskette is usually in a text file associated with the driver. it can be found in a file with names like, readme, instructions, procedure etc. After you create the floppy diskette with your driver, insert your Windows XP CD into the computer and press F6 where it shows below the screen to do it to install other RAID or third party drivers. When you press F6, it will run and come to a screen where you will select your floppy diskette as the source of the drivers and the SATA drivers will be installed on your computer for the installation to proceed successfully. Now, if your computer does not come with floppy diskette drive, then you are in another problem but that can also be solved. You have to purchase a USB floppy diskette driver in other to follow the procedure described above or you have to follow the next procedure I’m about to describe to get your job done. The second procedure is very simply but involves little bite of computer skill. This procedure is called slipstreaming. In this procedure, you download the SATA driver from your manufactures site. Then you download a software called NLITE from http://www.nliteos.com/download.html . Install NLITE on a working computer with CD or DVD burner. Insert your Windows XP CD into this working computer and start NLITE. NLITE will ask you to select the source of you operating system, navigate to the Windows XP CD and select it. It will then ask you to select a place to store the files for the process, you can either create a folder to complete this section or click create new folder button at the buttom of NLITE window and create a folder on your hard drive to store the files. Click next until you come to NLITE window to select the type of integration you want to perform. Select Drivers and Bootable and click next. NLITE will ask you to select the drivers to intergrate and you have to navigate to select the .inf file inside the SATA drivers you’ve downloaded from your computer manufactures site. When succesful, click next on NLITE and continue. Then NLITE gives you the option to create an ISO to burn for your new XP CD. Click make ISO and select to store it somewhere on your hard drive. When it has finished creating the ISO, you are going to get a new blank cd or dvd into the computer and burn that ISO onto it. You can use an ISO image burner from http://www.isoimageburner.com/ or use any ISO burning software of your choice. The CD you have just created contains all you need to install Windows XP on your SATA computer without any other procedure. Just insert it and install XP normally, no need to do anything again. The SATA drivers are now integrated and XP will install successfully without any problem.

As a side note, based on the operating system on the computer you are using to create your intergrated XP CD, you might have some problems creating the CD but l can’t cover all of that here. The best way is to try another computer if one failed to create your CD. If you tried everything and it all failed, then it’s time to get a technician to complete the installation for you and the best site to look for one is here http://mypcdr.net/. Happy intergrating drivers for your Windows XP CD.

Sometimes, our computers become so slow that, even a snail will deliver a mail to a neighbor faster than trying to access the internet and write an email to the same neighbor. There are many reasons why the computer gets slow and I’m going to explain some of the reasons why the computer gets slow or bogs down as it ages. The number one reason for many computers to run slower is the attack by a virus. Viruses are programs written by greedy programmers to make your computer misbehave and give you hell. There are different viruses out there but they are not the only cause of the slowness of the computer. Sometimes, the computer simply runs slower because you have installed too much programs on your computer. Some people install stuff that they don’t even know what it’s used for and they never even use it. So why not remove unwanted, unused programs that only take away space and use your processor and memory resources. When you install programs, whether you are using it or not, they programs or software that you installed have something like a hook that it uses to hang on to the start up system of the Operating system if it needs to. So weather you start it or not, the program will be using resources as soon as the computer starts. The best way to get those resources back is to completely remove useless programs from your computer. After removing these programs or just as a good way of house keeping, it’s good to run a cleaner software like ccleaner( you can get it for free from http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner ) Use that to clean up your registry to remove unnecessary left over and also clean up your entire computer, including your browser cache. This can be easy but the difficult task is when you have a virus on the computer. There are two ways to save your computer in this situation. First is to destroy everything on the computer and install fresh operating system on your computer and give it a fresh new life. This can cost you if you don’t know how to install operating system and other programs that helps your computer run smoothly. After installing a fresh operating system, it’s advisable to install a good anti virus program to keep you safe from future attacks. To get the best deal on this part of solution, I’ll recommend you contact us. The other problem of slowness can be the size of your computer memory. The memory is like the human brain. When you install too much stuff on a low memory computer, it finds it difficult to quickly process user requests. The best thing is to upgrade your memory to a bigger size. You can do it yourself if you know what type of memory and the limit for the type of motherboard or computer you are using. The memory for a laptop is different for that one for a desktop so you have to be careful when purchasing something online. The memories come in different forms and types, there are SDRAM, DDR, DDR2 and others. Also, another tricky part is the density of the memory. There are two types of densities; high density and low density. Don’t let the name high density deceive you to think it’s better, your computer might not be able to support it. Low density memories are 100% compatible with all computers while high density is compatible with only about 10% of computers. Your best bet is to look for low density memory when shopping. The trick is, high densities are cheaper than low densities but they might not work for your computer so you’ll end up wasting your money. High density memories is what l call left over memories because they are useless to most computers, from my point of view. Now, when you solve the problem the density, you should worry about weather you need an SDRAM or DDR or DDR2 or whatever type that your computer takes. Again I’ll recommend you contact us to inquire the best way to upgrade your memory. Some of the memories do not have anything written on it, please, if you don’t know anything about computers, don’t mess with them. Call a technician. But if you see SDRAM, which stands for Single Data Rate Random Access Memory, then you should only search for those type of memory. if you accidentally buy DDR, which stands for double data rate for your SDRAM, it’s totally useless. They are not compatible with each other, that means if your computer use SDRAM, there is no way you can put A DDR into it. That’s just how it is. There are some computers that have slot for both SDRAM and DDR so in those situations, you just put the SDRAM into its slot on the mother board and the DDR in its spot but you can switch their positions. So to make a long story short, always make sure you keep your computer healthy or upgrade your memory to get a faster speed.

Viruses are programs written by humans purposely to make other computer user’s life a living hell. Why do they do this? Simple, we live in a world of greed and people are free to do anything they like. Virus programs are simply codes which programmers write and distribute on the internet so that it will attack people’s computer. Here are some simple ways to stay out of trouble from Virus attack. First, always have an anti virus running on your computer. You can get free virus programs that can give you an average protection but you might want to purchase one of those good but expensive ones if you run important programs and data on your computer. Some free anti viruses are avg (www.avg.com), avast (www.avast.com) and many more. l like those two free anti virus programs a lot. If you have money and want to get better protection, l recommend Norton 360 Premium edition or Mcafee or micro trend. There is a free program that you can run on your computer to scan it for virus programs on it. It helps remove malware from your computer. It’s called malwarebytes’ Anti-malware (www.malwarebytes.org). Some of these terms are confusing sometimes, a malware is a simple term for malicious software. It is the bigger category under which computer virus, trojan horses, worms, and all the destructive software. To an average person, all we know is virus attacking our computer. Virus is just one type of malware that can attack your computer. So keep your computer always protected especially when browsing the internet. This is the deal, these programs are hiding on some websites, you go on them, then your computer gets attacked without your knowledge. In case you need help solving any virus problem, PCDR is always available and our rates are very low. Check out our services section to find more information.
